Nature Day & Bioblitz Event

Discover the incredible wildlife that calls Lower Mill Estate home as part of our Nature Day and Bioblitz event.

Whether you're a keen wildlife enthusiast or simply looking for a fun family activity, this is a fantastic opportunity to get outside, explore the Estate and learn more about the nature on your doorstep. Join our ecologist, James, and help us record as many species as possible, from birds and insects to plants and aquatic creatures.

Take part for half an hour or spend the whole day exploring – everyone is welcome, and no previous wildlife knowledge is needed.

What is a Bioblitz?

A Bioblitz is a community wildlife survey where participants work together to identify and record as many different species as possible within a set time period.

We're inviting guests and homeowners to help us build a snapshot of the Estate's biodiversity by recording any wildlife they spot throughout the day. Every sighting counts and contributes to our understanding of the habitats and species found across Lower Mill Estate.

Simply collect a recording sheet from the Activity Hub, Miss Mouse Hut or one of the nature stations, then head out and start exploring.

Interactive Nature Stations

Throughout the day, James will be hosting interactive nature stations around the Estate. Each station will focus on a different aspect of our local wildlife and offer hands-on activities, fascinating discoveries and the chance to ask questions about the species you find.

Nature Station Timetable:

1000-1050, Pond Station (Mill Lake)

Discover the fascinating creatures living beneath the surface and learn more about the aquatic wildlife found in our lakes.

1050-1130, Bug Station (Mill Lake)

Join us for some bug hunting as we sweep the long grass to uncover the insects and mini-beasts living around the Estate.

1145-1230, Bird Station (Somerford Lagoon)

Use binoculars to spot some of the birds that inhabit our largest lake and learn how to identify common species.

1245-1330, Plant and Beaver Station (Rugby Pitch)

Take a closer look at the Estate's plant life and hear more about one of our most elusive residents – the beaver.

1345-1400, Miss Mouse Hut

Return your recording sheets, share your wildlife discoveries and find out what species have been identified throughout the day. If you're planning to continue exploring, a collection box will be available for completed sheets.
